On February 10, City Council will consider torpedoing its own housing policy. Administration is proposing:
These reductions go much farther beyond any previous proposed reductions to unit counts and are a reactionary policy to opposition.
Administration will also present council with proposals on reducing height limits, but are not recommending them.
The deadline to provide feedback is January 29.
The Goal: We need you to tell them that Edmontonians want more housing, not less.
What to do:
Fill out City Administration's survey linked below.
Tell them you oppose the following:
❌ Cutting unit counts: Keep the limit at 8 units (don't drop it to 6).
❌ Increasing site area: Keep it at 75m² (don't increase to 90m²).
❌ Reducing height: Maintain the 10.5m limit; don't add "height impact" restrictions.
Here's a short example paragraph you can use as a response. It's best if you can write your own response, but the template response is still appreciated and very helpful
"I oppose the proposal to reduce the maximum number of dwellings on interior sites from 8 to 6, and I oppose increasing the minimum site area per dwelling. The RS zone has improved neighbourhoods across the city by providing more housing options, reinvigorating local businesses, and bringing back life in places with declining population. Furthermore, I oppose any reduction in building height or new restrictions on third storeys. We should be making it easier to build diverse housing types, not harder."
